Opensource Alternative

Post by benjibarnicals » Fri Mar 02, 2012 3:37 pm

Still in it's developmental phase at the moment however this could be very promising for the more tech minded:

It's an open source cheap micro Linux platform that allows sensors of all types (heat/motion/video/sound/humidity/temp etc) to be connected to give a response.

All online cloud based, and will be very cheap (in comparison to AM gear).

Not as sexy or refined as AM stuff though could be of use :)

It's a lot like the new Raspberry Pi computer system that was recently released whereas that was for coding, this is all about sensor/response attachments.

These do look very interesting. It would be nice to know a little more about how the different components fit together, though. The initial blocks look pretty chunky (although this is bound to reduce with development). Wifi is pretty power hungry, though. While the AlertMe sensors are standalone, the ninjablock sensors seem to require a whole ninjablock to work.

I'll be keeping an eye on these, though!

PS. Shifted to the appropriate forum. :)
